History

OurHistory

The Gathering Place was launched March 4, 2001 when Russ Moyer, a traveling Prophet, began holding meetings in town at the request of local people. Many families and individuals were touched in those meetings and their lives were never the same again. We then began to receive from the Lord through dreams and prophetic words that He wanted to do a mighty work in Aurora, and this was confirmed repeatedly. One such confirmation came during a ministry trip to Vineland, NJ, where a brother stood and answered questions we were asking but had told no one. Since our inception, people have traveled from Stratford, Toronto, Orillia, Victoria Harbour, Barrie, Innisfill, Brampton, Hamilton, Oshawa, Port Hope, Sutton, Kleinburg, Stouffville, Washago, Sutton, Hamilton, Keswick, Copetown, Brantford, Mississauga, Oakville, Markham,  Port Perry, Green Bank, St. Catharine's and many other place. Signs, wonders and miracles continue to confirm the preaching of the Word.

We began holding services on Sunday evenings at Park Place Manor, a retirement facility where many people who initially came had experienced the loss of loved ones through tragic accidents and sickness. God began to bring hope and healing to these wonderful, hurting people. In the late winter of 2004, Pastor John Irving was awoken by a dream urging him to immediately move the location of the church.  Two weeks later, SARS broke out in the Toronto area, resulting in the restriction of access for a short period of time in all area senior’s residences, including Park Place Manor. However, the church had heeded God’s word and had already moved to Howard Johnson’s Hotel in Aurora. There we continued to flourish and be blessed.

Finally in December 2004, the Lord again began to stir in us. Finances came in unexpectedly for a down payment on a building. Then suddenly a property we had prayed about earlier became available, the Aurora Bowling Alley. To many people this was a strange venture and many were skeptical but we moved out on revelation from God. We closed the deal on the last day of 2004 and began renovations in April of 2005.  We moved into our current sanctuary in June of 2005 and still operate the bowling alley as a marketplace ministry where we reach out to the community that comes to bowl.

In early 2011, three ladies from the church felt led in their hearts to meet in the sanctuary on Monday nights to pray and worship. In a short period of time, the presence of God began to move in power ways and we began holding revival meetings on those Monday nights. To date we continue to experience continued moves of revival fires, every week new people visit to receive a life-transforming touch of God.
